Frequently Asked Questions
🔒 Where is my data stored? Is it sent to any server?
All your subscription data is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage — nothing is ever sent to a server. Your data lives only on your device, under the key subaudit_v2. Clearing your browser data or using a different browser/device will lose your entries, so export a CSV backup periodically.
💾 Will my data survive if I close the tab or browser?
Yes. localStorage persists across browser sessions. Your subscriptions will be there the next time you open this page on the same browser and device. However, private/incognito mode may not persist data after the window closes.
📁 How do I back up or transfer my subscriptions?
Use Download CSV on the Breakdown tab to export all your subscriptions. You can re-import this file using the Import CSV tab on any device. Keep this CSV somewhere safe as your backup.
📂 How does CSV import work?
Go to the Import CSV tab, upload your file, and subscriptions will be merged with your existing ones. Entries with the same name (case-insensitive) are skipped to avoid duplicates. Download the template for the correct column format.
🧟 What is a "zombie" subscription?
A zombie subscription is one whose Last Used date is more than 30 days ago. These are services you're paying for but not actively using — prime candidates to cancel.
📊 How are Usage and Value scores used?
The Composite Score is the average of your Usage (1–10) and Value (1–10) scores. Scores 1–3 are flagged as low-value (red), 4–6 as medium (amber), and 7–10 as high-value (green). Low-value subscriptions appear in the Savings Plan tab as cancellation candidates.
📄 What does the PDF report include?
The PDF is generated entirely in your browser using jsPDF — no server involved. It includes: a summary of total spend, a full subscription list with scores, a savings analysis, billing comparison, category breakdown, and your notes. It is always rendered in a clean light theme regardless of your app theme setting.
🗑 How do I clear all my data?
Use the Clear All Data button on the Breakdown tab. This permanently deletes all subscriptions from localStorage. Export a CSV backup first if you want to keep your data.
